Is there any hope for Consumer Protection in College Football? The gross amount of revenue that a few enities enjoy should at least buy some FAN protection of integrity. The College Football Season should come to an end with the Championship determined on the field. Not behind these Major Universities back rooms. College Football is the only sport left with true and real entertainment. The players and fans are all having fun and the players are playing their hearts out. The Bowl Games are great but they are mis-managed. There is an alternative. Take a look!!
In 2005, a Congressional hearing entitled "Determining a Champion on the Field: A comprehensive review of the BCS and Postseason College Football" was Chaired by Congressman Barton. I was able to hear the two hour webcast. The Witnesses did not answer the question put to them. "Why can't the NCAA have some sort of playoff for College Football?" Those witnesses four years ago are still today not answering the question. Those witnesses are the foxes guarding the hen house! Their lame excuses for not having a playoff can easily be overcome using the Present System. The BCS, which these foxes are in favor of, can institute a playoff using the present BCS Ranking. I have been doing a playoff each Football Season since 2005, using the BCS ratings. And it doesn't extend the season and fits the Present Bowls like a glove. A champion is crowned the first part of the year and what a Christmas Holiday season with the top 14 teams from the BCS participating. Myles Brand, President of the National Collegiate Athletic Association, wrote an article on the NCAA's role in Commercialism. It was great! I ask the President to write one more article on the NCAA's responsibility to the College Football Fan. Without the FANS where would College Football be? You have Stadium Fans, Television Fans and Radio Fans. All of these FANS generate gross revenue far beyond my ability to state! I am 73, retired Military and have been around the world. Without exception, FANS everywhere have been asking for College Football Playoffs. The BCS was a good beginning, BUT WHERE'S THE BEEF? Win or loose on the field. Not in a rating. Do away with the Conference Tie-ins for certain Bowls. Rotate the Bowls each year. SHARE THE WEALTH!!! USING A STRAIGHT 8 OR 16 TEAM BRACKET FOR A Playoff would greatly weaken the Major Bowls and misuse the higher ranked teams. Making the top 6 teams AUTOMATIC would guarantee a GREAT FINISH LINE. Having the ELIMINATION ROUND would get the Championship Series off to a beautiful start and guarantee the top bowls; the Rose, the Sugar, the Orange, the Cotton, the Fiesta, the Capital One, and the Gator) of having the GREATEST GAMES. And these bowls should be rotated each year. This is in keeping with a tradition of the Bowls and the FANS. THIS IS IMPORTANT. The Bowl Championship Series should not be abandoned. College Bowl games have been a significant part of College Football for over 93 years. I was born in 1936 and I can safely say that College Football would not be where it is today if not for the Bowl Games. And each year, there have been FANS who were disappointed when their team didn't play in a certain Bowl Game. Texas should have played Tennessee in the Rose Bowl; Alabama should have played Southern Cal in the sugar Bowl; and on and on. This is real College Football FANS having a good time. That goes on today and there is nothing wrong with that. More Bowl games were added over the 60's, the 70's, the 80's , ect. The BCS started with the 1998 season. And the BCS has continued to improve the Bowl Games and COLLEGE FOOTBALL IS THRIVING.
